Sanjay Bhatt covers Seattle neighborhoods for The Seattle Times. He started at the paper in 2003 and covered urban education for more than two years, focusing on Seattle Public Schools. He received a first place award from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Northwest chapter for a 2004 online special report marking the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court's landmark ruling in Brown v. Board of Education.
Prior to joining The Times, Sanjay spent nearly six years reporting for The Palm Beach Post in West Palm Beach, Fla., including four years covering public health and health care. He led The Post's coverage of the 2001 anthrax attack in Florida, for which the newspaper received a first place Green Eyeshade Award from SPJ. He also won a 2002 SAJA Journalism Award and wrote for Nieman Reports about the lessons he learned covering the anthrax attack.
Sanjay holds a bachelor's degree in history from Duke University and a certificate in documentary filmmaking from the University of Washington.
