About Jason Sperber

SPERBER, JASON is the community content coordinator for Bakersfield.com and the content manager for RaisingBakersfield.com, both websites owned and operated by The Bakersfield Californian. After a degree in ethnic studies from Brown University and a short-lived career as a high school social studies teacher in the Los Angeles area, Jason became a stay-at-home-dad of his newborn daughter in Bakersfield. While at home for his daughter’s first two years, he began blogging about modern fatherhood, parenting issues, and their intersection with race and diversity issues [owner/blogger, daddyinastrangeland.com; co-founder/coordinator, RiceDaddies.com, columnist, AntiRacistParent.com]. This new experience in the blogosphere led, unexpectedly, to the world of online community management and the intersection of social media and newspaper.coms. He joined Bakersfield.com in November 2006, managing the site’s blog community and working to grow membership and contributions. This year, he added the management of a new social networking site for local parents to his duties, coming full circle. He lives in Bakersfield with his wife, toddler daughter, and their dog Waldo the Wondermutt.
