About Samantha Sommer
SOMMER, SAMANTHA is the City Hall reporter at the Springfield News-Sun, a 30,000-circulation daily that covers Clark and Champaign counties in Ohio. She has reported on a range of topics, from a city trying to transform its Rust Belt economy to an Air National Guard base seeking new missions to local residents brewing their own beer and wine. She also is the newsroom training coordinator, responsible for selecting topics for and planning monthly training sessions. The newspaper and Cox Ohio Publishing is making a push to train its staff in multimedia skills this year, an effort she will assist. She has been with the News-Sun since 2001 and is a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. Her interests include cooking, knitting, reading and a book club she started last year.
