About Ted Appel
Ted Appel is the business editor at The Press Democrat, a 78,000-circulation daily newspaper in Northern California. He oversees a team of reporters that produces content for newspaper, Web and magazine franchises published by the New York Times Regional Media Group. Appel grew up in Colorado and graduated with a degree in Journalism from California State University, Long Beach. He joined The Press Democrat in 1993 as a business reporter, where he covered technology companies, the economy and the wine industry. He was promoted to assistant business editor in 2000 and was named government/politics editor in 2003. He returned to the business team in 2005 as business editor. Before joining The Press Democrat, he worked at United Press International for six years in its Sacramento and Los Angeles bureaus. He enjoys hiking, camping and testing the limits of his six-inch vertical leap in pickup basketball games. He lives with his wife, Tracy, and their daughter, Hannah, in Santa Rosa.
