About Tahra Makinson-Sanders
MAKINSON-SANDERS, TAHRA has been Director of Photography at The Press Democrat since the summer of 2005, overseeing a staff of nine photographers. Previously she was the Deputy Director of Photography for the Sacramento Bee, Photography Editor for The Advocate in Stamford, CT, freelanced as a photographer in Detroit, staff photographer at The Bergen Record, in NJ and the Slidell Sentry News outside New Orleans where she was born. She attended Ohio University’s graduate program for Visual Communication and the University of Colorado, Boulder for her undergraduate degree. She is the National Press Photographers Associations Women’s Committee Chair and runs the annual conference. She enjoys skiing, mountain biking, cycling, and being a beach bum.
