UPTON, JOHN writes about government, utilities, the environment and other issues for The Bay Citizen. He previously reported for the San Francisco Examiner and the Tracy Press. He moved to California in 2006 to cover a congressional election campaign for the Tracy Press that saw incumbent Richard Pombo defeated by Democrat Jerry McNerney. More recently, he covered land-use and the environment for the San Francisco Examiner. Upton has won environmental- and engineering-related journalism awards for coverage of the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge eyebar repairs, the Cosco Busan oil spill in San Francisco Bay and military weapons tests involving depleted uranium in the Central Valley.
