About Mike Odom

ODOM, MIKE is a staff writer at the Fairhope Courier, a 2,000-circulation newspaper that covers several cities and towns along the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay, AL and is part of the 10,000-circulation Gulf Coast Newspapers group, which runs a common website and shares print stories among its six newspapers in the county. Odom covers city government, writes features and takes photos for the twice-weekly community newspaper founded in 1894. He graduated from the Cumberland School of Law, has a bachelor’s in English from Washington & Lee University and expects to finish a master’s in English at the University of South Alabama next summer. He made a mid-career move from law to journalism five years ago, first working as a general assignment reporter for the Navarre Press, an independent weekly in Northwest Florida, then joining the Courier in 2007. He enjoys guitar, kayaking and local history.
