About Yumi Wilson

WILSON, YUMI is an assistant professor of journalism at San Francisco State University. She teaches various courses in journalism, including: News Writing, Reporting, Opinion Writing and Journalism Ethics. She is an on-call producer at Yahoo! Broadband, a former co-host of a radio program on KALW, and she writes a monthly column for Hokubei Mainichi in San Francisco. Wilson recently graduated with an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from USF, where she finished the first draft of her memoir, tentatively titled, Black Nisei. She is an Army brat who moved from place to place for many years until landing a job at the San Francisco Chronicle, where she worked as a reporter and editor for 11 years. She now calls the Bay Area her home. She lives in Redwood City with her husband and 12-year-old son, Kimo.
