Holistic Vets Provide Homeopathic Care for Pets

As you walk through the halls of the Holistic Veterinary Care center—a new business in Oakland—you may lapse into spa mode. The calming purr of a fountain, the Chinese floral paintings, and zen garden details put both pets and their owners at ease.

One dog was kind enough to let us in on her holistic center visit. Her name is Meloso:

The center reflects a new trend in pet care. Pet owners are starting to turn to hundreds of clinics nationwide to complement or replace traditional veterinary services and help their cats, dogs, and even birds relax.

The American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA) defines holistic care as treatment that "supports alternative and complementary approaches to veterinary healthcare." The AHVMA is "dedicated to integrating all aspects of animal wellness in a socially and environmentally responsible manner."

Treatments considered holistic include acupuncture, aromatherapy, Chinese herbs, chiropractic, color therapy, glandular therapy, massage, laser therapy, and sound therapy.

Our special report on holistic vet care will introduce you to Dr. Gary Richter, owner of Holistic Vet Care, and some of his clients. Explore various holistic treatments, and learn more about the cost of vet care.
