The California Department of Corporations has a California Electronic Access to Securities Information Database of securities filings that is searchable by the name of a company:

The actual documents filed by the company can be viewed online in Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format.

Brokers, Investment Advisers, Financial Planners, etc.

The Department of Corporations also has searchable online databases of licensed brokers, investment advisers, financial planners, lenders and other people and companies involved in financial or securities advice and transactions.
