Register for the Visual Communications Certificate Program and then complete the following courses. You may complete the courses in any order. However, we recommend beginning with Visual Storytelling with Photography.
Visual Storytelling With Photography
In this course you'll use photography as the medium, as you gain the skills to identify and create powerful, meaningful, and enticing visual stories. You'll learn about composition, lighting, framing, movement and how to capture a story from a portrait, and moment to moment. Plus, you'll leave with a compelling photo essay designed by you.
Data Visualization For Storytellers
In this course we'll take take you step-by-step through the process of cleaning, analyzing and processing data. You will build a portfolio of charts, graphs and maps using tools such as Tableau Public, Datawrapper and OpenRefine. You’ll work to apply skills and practice techniques as you deepen your knowledge in data visualization.
In this course you’ll learn the foundations of storytelling and filmmaking from professional filmmakers and journalists. Plan, write, interview, shoot and edit your own short video alongside a community of makers. You'll learn how to engage your audience and craft video stories that hold on to the very end, and leave with a video produced by you.

Professional Portfolios for Storytellers
In this course you'll build a portfolio to showcase your body of work created during the program. You'll learn best practices for web design, and identifying your brand, plus the foundations of user navigation. Working alongside other creators, you'll gain valuable feedback from your instructor and other professionals.

Congratulations! Upon completion of the portfolio course, you will receive an electronic certificate to share with colleagues and friends.
Registration & Fee
Registration for the certificate program in visual communications includes enrollment in the four required courses. Enrollment in the courses is open to you for one year after registering for the visual communications certificate program.
