Nani Sahra Walker

Nani Sahra Walker is an award winning writer, director and producer. Her work includes documentary films, videos and immersive experiences for National Geographic, The Atlantic, Washington Post, BBC, Los Angeles Times and other news organizations. Her first feature, “Other Nature” (available on Amazon) follows third gender activists in Nepal during the historic 2008 Supreme Court ruling granting citizenship to non-binary individuals. Her short film “Forced,” co-directed with Grace Oyenubi about three women rebuilding their lives after the militant group Boko Haram invaded their village in Borno, Nigeria, was nominated for an IDA Award. In 2018, Nani co-directed “What They Carried,” an augmented reality series on migration and loss along the Mexico-US border, which was awarded for Excellence and Innovation in Visual Digital Storytelling by the Online News Association. She is a lecturer at UC Berkeley, and previously taught at CELSA Paris-Sorbonne and the University of Granada in Spain. Nani is an alumna of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism and Boston University, where she focused on new media, documentary and philosophy respectively.
